New court documents say a well-known Columbia businesswoman who pleaded guilty this week to federal wire fraud embezzled money held in trust for Moresource clients.

64-year-old Kat Cunningham of Rocheport embezzled payroll deposits from 24 Moresource clients, according to the federal court documents. The other 36 counts from the January 2023 federal indictment have been dismissed. Ms. Cunningham remains out on bond and her sentencing date has not been set. Federal prosecutors have said she also took some client’s money to pay penalties assessed by the IRS.

The Columbia Chamber of Commerce honored Kat Cunningham as the Chamber’s 2016 outstanding citizen of the year.
