A familiar face is heading back to Columbia’s school board, along with newcomer Alvin Cobbins.
Voters in Columbia Public Schools (CPS), Missouri’s fifth-largest school district, have re-elected board vice president Jeanne Snodgrass. They’ve also elected challenger Cobbins to the board. Snodgrass and Cobbins easily beat challenger John Thomas Potter on Tuesday. Mr. Potter is a frequent critic of CPS and is also critical of the teachers unions and the influence they have.
The top two vote-getters won Tuesday’s election, with Snodgrass receiving 11,142 votes and Cobbins getting 10,310 votes. Mr. Potter received 5,782 votes. Snodgrass wins her second term on the board.
Incumbent Karen Hayes decided not to seek a full term: you’ll recall she was appointed to the board in June 2023 to finish the remainder of former board member Katherine Sasser’s term.
