First degree murder charges have been filed against a South Carolina man for a cold case murder that happened in Columbia 26 years ago today (Wednesday).

The court has ordered 45-year-old Sentrell Wilson to be extradited back to Columbia to face the murder charges. A court filing from Missouri Assistant Attorney General Kevin Zoellner says Wilson asphyxiated the victim on February 25, 2000, left her body where it went undiscovered for days and then fled the state. The Missouri Attorney General’s office says Sentrell Wilson has a violent criminal history in South Carolina that includes armed robbery with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault.

The court has ordered Wilson to remain jailed without bond.

Our news partner ABC-17 reports the murder victim was 21-year-old Candice Richie, a Mizzou student. Richie’s brother, State Rep. Mark Sharp (D-Kansas City), tells ABC-17 News he’s grateful to the Missouri Attorney General’s office and to the Boone County Prosecutor’s office for taking a renewed look at the case.
