The mayor of fast-growing Ashland says Saturday’s spaghetti lunch/dinner aimed at eliminating or reducing student lunch debt at the Southern Boone R-1 school district has raised at least $6,700.
Mayor Dorise Slinker briefed the Southern Boone R-1 school board at Monday night’s meeting, adding he’s waiting to receive a few more donations. Southern Boone R-1 district spokesman Matt Sharp tells 939 the Eagle that 180 dinners were served on Saturday, with 30 pounds of spaghetti and 240 loaves of garlic bread being made. Mr. Sharp quotes Mayor Slinker’s presentation.
Mayor Slinker thanks the Ashland-area community for your generosity and thanks the Southern Boone lunch ladies, who cooked the food. The Southern Boone R-1 school district’s lunch debt was about $32,000 before Saturday, so the fundraiser has reduced it to about $25,000. The cost of a meal was a cash or check donation.
