A standoff at Columbia’s Links apartment complex on Clark lane has ended, with the suspect being found dead inside an apartment.

Our news partner KMIZ reports the dead suspect, who has not been identified, allegedly fired shots at officers at the scene. Columbia Police say the incident began at about 3:40 this morning, when shots were fired at the Links, which is near the Schnucks on Clark lane. CPD spokeswoman Jenny Hopper tells ABC-17’s Morgan Buresh that there was active gunfire when CPD officers arrived, adding that a Columbia Police Bearcat was struck by gunfire. The suspect then barricaded himself in an apartment, according to police.

The standoff lasted more than eight hours and included CPD’s SWAT and crisis negotiation teams. Ms. Hopper says the Missouri State Highway Patrol also sent armored vehicles to assist. The Highway Patrol’s bomb squad was also called in.

A 939 the Eagle reporter saw numerous CPD vehicles at about 4:50 this morning, including officers staging near the Links clubhouse. Ms. Hopper says officers breached the apartment after eight hours and found the man dead. He has not been identified.
