The suspect in Thursday’s homicide on North Douglas drive in Columbia has been identified as 32-year-old Steven Swanson, a parolee who has served prison time for felony domestic assault.

Online records show he was released from prison about a week ago, after serving 120 days of shock time. He was originally facing a seven-year prison sentence, but instead was sentenced to the four months of shock time.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says Swanson killed himself Thursday afternoon, after firing multiple rounds at a state trooper’s vehicle during a chaotic chase that ended in Randolph County.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department the incidents started when Swanson allegedly shot a 35-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman Thursday on North Douglas drive. The man was shot and killed and the female victim is in serious condition at a local hospital. Boone County Sheriff’s deputies have not released the name of the victim who was shot to death.
Deputies and Columbia Police saw the suspect’s Ford Bronco and Thursday afternoon’s pursuit began and continued all the way to the Clark area, just north of the Boone/Randolph County line. It ended when a trooper conducted a tactical vehicle intervention, before Swanson allegedly fired multiple rounds and hit the trooper’s vehicle.
The trooper was not injured.
