The suspect in the Christmas morning officer-involved shooting at a Columbia Break Time remains in the custody of CPD at a hospital for gunshot wounds, according to court documents.
Boone County prosecutors have charged 31-year-old Marc Jeremiah Peter Lucas with first degree arson, three other felonies and three misdemeanors. Lucas allegedly set a room on fire at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel on Lemone Industrial drive on Christmas morning, before the incident at the Break Time near Highway 63.
The Columbia Police Department’s probable cause statement says Lucas has a criminal record in multiple other states and has numerous prior arrests. Court documents say he’s been arrested previously for assault, resisting arrest, assault with a deadly weapon and causing harm/death to an elder/dependent adult. Lucas’ drivers license is from the state of California, according to court documents.

The officer-involved shooting happened at about 10:45 Christmas morning at the Break Time on Columbia’s East Stadium, near Highway 63. CPD says Lucas tried to attack a customer inside Break Time with a knife and that Lucas was noncompliant when officers tried to detain him. CPD says a Taser was deployed but that it did not have the desired effort. Police say Lucas then tried to assault a Columbia police officer with a knife. That’s when officers discharged their weapons.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control (DDCC) is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
