The Boone County Fire Protection District says the first accident was a head-on collision near Highway 63 and 124 at about 4:30 pm.  Authorities say one vehicle crossed the median and struck a southbound vehicle head-on near Pinnacles and Highway 63. Boone County Fire Protection District assistant chief Gale Blomenkamp says one driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second driver died at University Hospital in Columbia.

Blomenkamp says the second crash happened about an hour later, one mile north of the original scene. Authorities say a Jeep rear-ended a vehicle that was stuck in traffic from the first crash. Blomenkamp says one passenger in the rear-ended vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, while three other passengers suffered serious injuries. He says the Jeep driver was also seriously injured. Mr. Blomenkamp says Highway 63 was closed in both directions after the crashes to ensure the safety of first responders.

Authorities urge you to be vigilant while traveling through emergency scenes.
