Prosecutors in northern Missouri’s Lincoln County have reportedly charged the truck driver accused of driving the wrong way this week on Highway 61 with two misdemeanors. The incident has drawn national attention and reaction from U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, Missouri’s governor and members of Congress.
The “Lincoln County Journal” in Troy reports Prosecutor Mike Wood’s office has charged 38-year-old Abdiasis Abrahim Ali with driving the wrong direction on a divided highway and operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner. Prosector Wood says the truck driver was unable to speak proficient English for failing a Highway traffic sign assessment.
The newspaper reports Wood’s office is coordinating the investigation with the U.S. Department of Transportation and with ICE.

U.S. House Transportation Committee chairman Sam Graves (R-Tarkio), who represents northern Missouri and Lincoln County on Capitol Hill, says this is why they’re cracking down on illegal CDL’s. He praises the Missouri State Highway Patrol and Transportation Secretary Duffy, noting the trucker is out of service.
