22-year-old Robin Morales-Sanchez was originally charged with second degree murder and armed criminal action for the killing of 47-year-old Moises Hernandez-Sanchez, who was stabbed to death in a yard.

939 the Eagle News was in the courtroom for the July trial, and testimony indicated Hernandez-Sanchez was stabbed 22 times. A Boone County jury convicted Morales-Sanchez of voluntary manslaughter and armed criminal action for the death of Hernandez-Sanchez, and they also convicted him of first degree assault and armed criminal action for the stabbing of another man that day.

Boone County assistant prosecutor Susan Boresi tells 939 the Eagle that she will be requesting a 50-year prison sentence this morning from Boone County Circuit Judge Joshua Calvin Devine. Morales-Sanchez’s attorney has suggested the incident was in self-defense.
