939 the Eagle was at the Boone County Courthouse for Monday afternoon’s emotional sentencing hearing. 21-year-old Oscar Ashford and 20-year-old Samarion Robins pleaded guilty last week to second degree murder and to another felony for the drive-by shooting death of Aubrey Doxley, who was struck by gunfire while sleeping in her bed. The plea agreement between Boone County prosecutors and defense attorneys was accepted by Boone County Circuit Judge Jeff Harris, after he learned the victim’s family supported the plea agreement.

Aubrey’s mother testified at the sentencing hearing, telling Ashford and Robins that she didn’t see any remorse from them. Aubrey’s mother also told Ashford and Robins that she forgives them and doesn’t hate them but urged them to “tell their mothers the truth” about what happened that night on McKee street. She did not elaborate in court.

Family members on both sides sobbed during the sentencing. Boone County Circuit Judge Harris sentenced Ashford and Robins and told Aubrey Doxley’s family that he is sorry for their loss.
