UPDATE: Westbound I-70 near Columbia reopens after tow truck catches on fire

A tow truck that caught fire east of Columbia on Thursday afternoon closed westbound I-70 for about an hour. There are no reports of injuries, at this time.

Our news partner KMIZ reports a flatbed tow truck caught fire and was about 50 percent involved when firefighters arrived. Boone County Fire Protection District firefighters battled the fire and smoke.

Reporter Cosmo from our Zimmer sister station Y-107 says the tow truck caught fire on westbound I-70 near mile marker 137. Cosmo took photos at the scene, which shows smoke coming from the tow truck, along with numerous emergency vehicles at the scene. He says traffic was backed up for two miles.
