Missouri lawmakers are moving ahead with a plan to hike your gas taxes.
State Rep. Rudy Veit from Cole County says that tax has not been raised since the mid-1990’s.
“Every day we put off fixing our roads, they deteriorate faster,” Veit says. “Remember, last year to fix a bridge on Interstate 70 we had to borrow money and depend on getting money from the federal government.”
Previous ballot issues to hike the gas tax failed at the polls. The measure that’s passed the Missouri Senate would raise it about 12 cents a gallon by 2025. The bill is now in the House.
