Woman arrested after gunshot, kidnapping in north Columbia

UPDATE – 2:40 p.m.: Columbia Police released the name of the suspect in a shots fired incident that locked down several area schools Wednesday.

Investigators said Brandie M. Sorm (pictured), 32, of Columbia fired a gun at her partner and then took one of the pair’s children and left the area of the Springdale subdivision off Oakland Gravel Road near Highway 63.

“Because Sorm has other minor children in the public school system, a number of Columbia Public Schools in the area were placed on lockdown,” said Steven Sapp, Community Relations Director.

Officer found Sorm’s car around 10 a.m. near Highway 63 and performed a traffic stop. The 32-year-old was taken into custody and the child was found unharmed in the vehicle.

Sorm is facing possible charges of first-degree domestic assault, armed criminal action, first-degree child endangerment and felony property damage.
