Woods: Added Boone County restrictions “don’t make any sense”

Some business leaders in Boone County say it is time to end the extra local restrictions in place because of coronavirus concerns.

Attorney Matt Woods from Eng and Woods law firm sent a letter to county and Columbia city officials this week. He says one issue people have is that the local order lasts indefinitely.

“That is one of the things that these businesses find offensive about this order is that there is no date certain by which they can rely to plan on business activity.”

The letter calls for Boone County to end its extra restrictions, and follow the statewide limits. Woods says Boone County shops are losing business to neighboring counties, while those counties bring their sick people to Columbia’s hospitals.

“All the counties around us follow the state order. It’s just Boone that has this idea that we need further restrictions on our citizens which have no basis in fact, medically or otherwise, that don’t make any sense.”

Woods spoke on the CEO Roundtable show with Fred Parry on the May 9 episode. Our Gary Nolan led a protest against the local restrictions outside Columbia City Hall on Thursday.
