Local health department navigates “busy” and “intense” COVID-19 response

Scott Clardy with the Columbia Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services says workers are putting in long hours to limit the spread of COVID-19.

“They’ve just done some heroic actions to try to keep up with the cases, make sure we know who the cases have been in contact with, and then contacting those people to make sure that they’re taking protective actions too,” Clardy said on the new Inside Columbia Show.

Clardy says some workers just monitor all the guidance coming from the CDC on the new coronavirus, which sometimes changes by the hour.

“It’s been a lot,” Clardy said. “By definition, a ‘novel’ virus means that it’s new and we don’t know much about it.”
