The high water on the Missouri River has Cole County Eastern Commissioner Jeff Hoelscher wondering if a barge port is viable.
“That’s one of the questions is how much is it going to effect being able to ship things on the river when it’s flooded, when there’s ice.”
The current plan seeks to get the deed to 116 acres of state owned east of Jefferson City to build the port on.
Hoelscher says he’s also concerned that the Port Authority hasn’t seen many firms pledge private money for the operation.
