A Boone County jury will hear opening statements this morning in a high-profile murder case that happened in 2021 in Ashland.

22-year-old Robin Morales-Sanchez is charged with second degree murder and armed criminal action for the July 2021 stabbing death of 47-year-old Moises Hernandez-Sanchez in a yard. Hernandez-Sanchez worked at Ashland’s Jose Jalapeno’s and was popular with fellow employees and with customers.

Morales-Sanchez was captured in Kansas in August 2021.

Boone County assistant prosecutor Susan Boresi is prosecuting the case. She tells 939 the Eagle that jury selection has been completed and that opening statements begin this morning. She’ll also begin calling prosecution witnesses.

The federal government has also filed a federal immigration detainer on Morales-Sanchez, according to the Boone County Sheriff Department’s website.
