Parker-Millard Funeral Service is expecting a large turnout for Saturday’s funeral for a Columbia Rock Bridge high school employee killed in late May at a Tennessee rest stop.

Millard Family Chapels says the funeral for 55-year-old Michael Woods Jr. begins tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 at the Crossing church on Grindstone Parkway.

Memorials are suggested to the Home School Communicators- Michael Woods Jr. Memorial Scholarship fund. Mr. Woods served as Rock Bridge’s home-school communicator.

Former colleagues and students are praising Mr. Wood’s legacy on the funeral home website. Jayden Hernandez writes, in part: “I never got to say goodbye, I never got to say thank you for believing in me for having my back when I needed someone to talk to.”

Woods’ son, Micah McElmurry, is charged with shooting his father to death at a rest stop near Chattanooga.
