Boone commissioners approved tax breaks for possible meat facility

The Boone County Commission offers tax breaks for a proposed Italian meats facility.

Swift Prepared Foods plans to open a large plant on Paris Rd. in 2022, with 251 workers making an average of $52,695. It is the same company behind the new bacon plant in Moberly.

Commissioners on Thursday approved Chapter 100 tax breaks. Companies like Aurora Organic Dairy have used those incentives in recent years. Swift Prepared Foods can get up to 75% property tax breaks over the next ten years.

Commissioner Janet Thompson says part of the deal also includes work opportunities for people with developmental disabilities.
