Mr. Seewood’s budget focuses on many issues, including public safety and housing. Mr. Seewood’s report says the city hired and retained 24 police officers in 2024 and has hired 28 new officers in 2025. He also says housing remains a top priority in our community, citing a shortage of attainable and affordable options. The Columbia Board of Realtors says the median home price in June in Columbia hit a record high of $375,000. Mr. Seewood also says combatting homelessness remains a top priority for Columbia residents.

Mr. Seewood’s proposed budget also includes an additional code enforcement specialist. The first public hearing on the proposed budget takes place two weeks from tonight on Monday August 18. Columbia’s fiscal year begins on October 1.
