Columbia indoor ice arena would not be funded by city park sales tax extension

The renovation of Hickman High School’s swimming pool and funding for a new Columbia indoor ice facility are not included in a list of projects that will be funded, if voters approve a park sales tax extension in November.

Columbia’s City Council is expected to vote tonight on a resolution approving a list of projects to be funded, if voters approve the one-eighth cent park sales tax extension in November.

Parks officials say Hickman’s pool renovation would be a costly one that requires multi-jurisdictional funding and support. They also say the indoor ice facility may require other funding sources.

Columbia residents now have to travel to Jefferson City’s Washington Park ice arena, for indoor ice time.
