Columbia senator doubts Title IX bill makes a return

A report this week has revealed a Missouri lobbyist’s pursuit to gut sexual discrimination protections in education to help his son, who was expelled from school for such allegations.

The Kansas City Star reports lobbyist Richard McIntosh is the architect of a controversial bill intended to drastically change the way the state’s colleges and universities handle sexual assault and harassment cases.

Missouri Senate Majority Leader Caleb Rowden of Columbia comments about whether he expects a return this session of the contentious proposal that halted Senate business last week for hours.

“I am doubtful that you’ll probably see it again,” he said. “I could be wrong. A lot of these issues are will of the caucus issues.”

He said there was probably a lot to learn from the way the bill was rolled out.

The Star reported the bill would have required an administrative commission to hear the cases, a process that would have been overseen by McIntosh’s wife.
