Holts Summit and other area firefighters spent five hours out in the cold Monday, battling the fire that destroyed the Evergreen Condos.
Jefferson City firefighters assisted at the scene. JCFD Chief Matt Schofield says it’s easy to get hurt in these cold icy conditions.
“Especially when you are thrown off your center with extra gear and equipment, and potentially your focus has shifted to some of those operational things, it happens, and it happens quickly.”
40 residents were evacuated safely, but most lost everything. The Red Cross is asking for cash donations.
Investigators don’t have a cause. Indications are it may have started in some wiring.
