Heat advisory extended for mid-Missouri

The National Weather Service (NWS) is warning about dangerous heat again today (Wednesday) and tomorrow throughout mid-Missouri.

The NWS has extended the heat advisory for mid-Missouri through 8 tomorrow night. The heat index in Columbia and Jefferson City today and tomorrow will feel like 100 degrees.

The NWS is urging you to wear light-colored clothing today, and to avoid strenuous activity. They warn that the temperature will greatly increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially with the longevity of the ongoing heat wave.

There is also a chance of a few strong storms in central Missouri this evening. NWS St. Louis meteorologist Alex Elmore tells 939 the Eagle that there is a chance of scattered storms this evening that could produce some damaging wind gusts.
