JCPS board changing school start times

Jefferson City students will have some changes to when they start the day next school year.

The board of education voted Monday night to move start times to 7:45 a.m. for the elementary schools, 8:50 a.m. for the middle schools, and 8:40 a.m. for the high schools. Right now, it is a 7:50 start for high schoolers, 8:00 for middle schoolers, and various start times for elementary schools that are typically later than that.

District leaders say the staggered start times will allow more flexibility for bus routes and will save on transportation costs.
