Jefferson City police explore medical marijuana impacts

You won’t be able to walk into a dispensary and buy medical marijuana until next year. But Jefferson City Police are already looking at the what ifs.

“There are already laws in place as far as how many feet away from schools and churches that certain things can be,” JCPD Lt. Dave Williams says. “It’s not just like they’re opening a new McDonald’s.”

Williams says the city’s attorneys are trying to figure out how to regulate those operations.

The state is awarding more than three hundred licenses to potential medical marijuana growers or distributors. Those applicants have already paid more than $3 million combined in fees.
