Judge taking more time to decide whether CPD officer Heese will go to trial

After a preliminary hearing Thursday, there is still no decision on whether a Columbia police officer charged in a 4-year-old’s death will go to trial.

Andria Heese was charged with first-degree involuntary manslaughter in the death of Gabriella Curry. Heese allegedly drove over Curry in her police cruiser at Battle High School in January 2019, killing Curry. Court documents say the little girl was on the sidewalk, at an access point used by vehicles.

Heese’s attorney tried to get the case dismissed in March, but that was denied. The city settled with Curry’s family for more than $3 million.
