Kehoe: Missourians wary of toll roads

Lawmakers in Jefferson City may raise your state gas taxes soon. The Senate has passed a bill calling for that, and a House committee held a hearing on the measure Wednesday. But whatever happened to making I-70 a toll road?

Lt. Gov. Mike Kehoe says a lot of folks who live along the interstate mistakenly think they’d have to pay through the nose.

“If you live in Boonville and you drive every day to Columbia for work, you would use that corridor for free,” Kehoe said on KWOS. “What tolling concessionaires want to capture is that 52% of traffic on I-70 that’s not a Missouri resident.”

Kehoe says there is not much support for a toll road among people in counties along the interstate or in the trucking industry. About 60% of Missourians live close to I-70.
