A Missouri House committee will hear testimony Wednesday afternoon in Jefferson City on legislation remembering the life and service of the longtime Montgomery City utility superintendent, who died in a motorcycle crash in October.

59-year-old Russell Lee Burton was known across the area, from his 35 years as Montgomery City’s utility superintendent and his service on the Montgomery County school board. He was also a volunteer firefighter and worked the chains at high school football games.

House Transportation Committee chairman State Rep. Jeff Porter (R-Montgomery City) tells 939 the Eagle that Mr. Burton was also involved in Toys for Tots. Chairman Porter will present his House Bill 2524 this afternoon, that would designate part of Highway 19 as the Russell Lee Burton memorial highway.

Private donations would fund the signage’s cost.
