Columbia Regional Airport’s (COU) manager expects construction at the airport’s north parking lot to be finished prior to the important Christmas holiday travel season.

The north parking lot has been closed since last Monday (August 3) as crews work to add about 250 paved parking spaces there to support COU’s continued growth.

Airport manager Michael Parks praises the importance of the $3.2 million project, saying COU is investing in improvements today to meet the needs of tomorrow’s travelers.

The nation’s fastest-growing airport had a record-setting July, breaking numbers from June’s record-setting month. 21,826 passengers flew out of Columbia Regional in July, up from June’s record-setting number of 19,584.

Mr. Parks tells 939 the Eagle that all three airlines, American, United and Allegiant, saw double-digit growth from June to July.
