Columbia-based Boone Electric Cooperative is sending ten crew members to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to help crews there restore power after devastating Hurricane Ida.
More than one million people are currently without power in Louisiana. Boone Electric has sent eight linemen and a two-man right-of-way crew.
Boone Electric says Baton Rouge has been hit hard by the hurricane: 70 percent of DEMCO Electric Cooperative members in Baton Rouge have lost power.
Boone Electric also serves residents in Audrain, Callaway, Howard, Monroe and Randolph counties.
