The State of Missouri versus the People’s Republic of China could be playing soon at a courtroom near you.
Attorney General Eric Schmitt filed suit Tuesday in Eastern District federal court against China and its Communist Party. The suit claims Chinese officials lied about the novel coronavirus, and are to blame for its spread. Schmitt didn’t put a dollar amount on the damages he’s seeking for Missourians.
Senator Josh Hawley promoted a bill last week that would change federal law to allow Americans to sue Chinese officials for COVID-19 damages. Schmitt’s suit is the first an American state has filed against China in response to the pandemic. Click this link to read the lawsuit.
