Motorists and residents in downtown Jefferson City will notice the Missouri Capitol dome shining purple Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.
Governor Mike Parson has ordered the dome to be lighted purple at sunset, in recognition of domestic violence awareness month. The governor says 79,000 hotline calls were answered in Missouri by domestic violence programs in 2020, which is 205 hotline calls per day.
Governor Parson signed legislation into law this year, which establishes unpaid employment leave and safety accommodations for employees who are victims of domestic violence.
