Missouri River projected to crest just below major flood stage

Forecasters as of early Wednesday morning said they expect the Missouri River in Jefferson City to just miss the major flood stage of 30 feet late this week.

It was at 28.91 feet at 9:45 a.m. It is expected to crest at 29.8 feet early Friday.

Several mid-Missouri roads have closed again because of flooding, including Highways 5, 40, and 87 near New Franklin.

The state has requested its second disaster declaration of the year, to get federal help from the floods and last month’s tornado.
