Missouri Senate looks to wind down violent crime special session

The full Missouri Senate is set to get back together Wednesday, continuing the special session on violent crime in Jefferson City.

The House passed several measures out of its chamber last week.

Republican Sen. Tony Luetkemeyer says on The Mike Ferguson Show there is a good chance most measures will pass. One amendment that could hit a snag is a measure changing the law on transfer of weapons to kids.

“The way the bill reads right now, there’s an argument that somebody who’s a complete stranger could transfer a firearm to a child and there would be no criminal recourse, assuming that the individual did not intend for the child to commit a crime with it,” Sen. Luetkemeyer says.

If the Senate passes the violent crime bills, the governor would have to sign them into law.
