Missouri veterans director on taking care of veterans during pandemic

Missouri’s veterans homes are following the lead of skilled care facilities across the state.

New Veterans Commission Director Paul Kirchhoff said they’re trying to keep those veterans healthy.

“Immediately we set up isolation areas for our veterans if they show symptoms,” said Kirchhoff. “We also closed down the homes to visitation and to any contractors.”

Both residents and staff in the homes are tested for COVID-19 on a regular basis. In-person visits to veterans have been severely restricted, and at times stopped completely, since the first cases showed up in a home back in March.
