Mizzou women earn NCAA berth, heading to Iowa City

Mizzou women’s basketball is heading to Iowa City to start its NCAA Tournament run.

The Tigers learned on Monday they are the No. 7 seed in the Greensboro Region. They will open with the No. 10 seed Drake on Friday at 3 p.m.

“Initially, when you see a seven seed, I was a little taken back by that,” Mizzou head coach Robin Pingeton said on KTGR. “But then as you look through the bracket, I think we’re excited. I love the fact that we’re right down the road.”

Pingeton grew up about 30 miles north of Iowa City, in Atkins, Ia.

“[Iowa City is] only three and a half hours [away] if you have a heavy foot,” Pingeton said about the trip. “Hopefully we’ll have a good following.”

Both Mizzou and Drake are receiving votes just outside the latest AP Top 25. Mizzou has made the NCAA Tournament in women’s basketball four straight years for the first time since 1983-86.

“We couldn’t be in a better place than we are today going into the NCAA Tournament,” Pingeton said.
