Columbia Public Schools (CPS), Jefferson City Public Schools (JCPS) and numerous other districts have canceled classes for today (Friday), due to the winter storm’s impact.
CPS spokeswoman Michelle Baumstark says crews need time to clear snow and ice from roads, lots and walkways. She also says buses would not be able to safely navigate all routes across the 300 square mile district. Many Columbia roads are still snow-covered this morning.
Southern Boone R-1 in Ashland, Fulton schools and New Bloomfield R-3 have also canceled classes today. So have Boonville R-1 schools, Helias high school and Fr. Tolton.
Higher education is also impacted by the storm: Westminster College’s Fulton campus and Lincoln University’s Jefferson City campus are both closed.
