Pettis County man pleads guilty to murder for hire plot; wanted to have mother murdered as well

A Sedalia man is heading to federal prison for ten years, after pleading guilty to trying to have the victim in his statutory sodomy case killed.

Federal prosecutors say 58-year-old Jon Mark Wilson admits paying $2,000 to a federal undercover agent to murder his alleged victim in the separate state case. Prosecutors say Wilson also went into a Cabela’s and bought 25 shotgun shells for the undercover agent to use in the murder. The undercover agent worked for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Federal prosecutors also say that Wilson told the undercover agent that he wished he could have the victim’s mother murdered as well, but that he didn’t have the money. Wilson told the agent he hoped the victim’s mother would be so distraught over her child’s death that she would kill herself.

The Pettis County statutory sodomy case is still pending.

Wilson was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Brian Wimes.
