Progress on flood cleanup at Jefferson City airport

Crews are now in the middle of the messy, smelly clean up at Jefferson City’s Memorial Airport.

The airport’s main runway has been cleared of mud.

Water still sits on other runways though, and crews are ripping studs and drywall out of the terminal and the hangers. The floodwaters were up to almost four feet in some buildings. Repairs to navigational aids and runway lights that were underwater may take a while longer to repair.

The Missouri River at the capital is still falling, at the moderate flood stage of 26.5 feet as of early Thursday. It’s expected to stay in flood stage for another week.
