Renters may have to pay for trash service in Jefferson City

Do you have rental property in Jefferson City? Who pays for the trash service?

“If you’re that landlord, you can still assign that through a lease agreement or contractual agreement to your tenant,” Councilman Ken Hussey says. “City staff or the public or going to work with that tenant. But ultimately they’re going to come to that property owner to help resolve that and take care of that.”

The council debated the issue because of confusion over who would have to pay for that trash service at a rental home or apartment. If you’re a landlord, you can legally put that requirement on your tenant in the lease agreement.
