SEC announces conference-only football schedule

The SEC plans to only play conference football games this season because of coronavirus concerns.

The league announced Thursday all schools will play ten games, starting Sept. 26. The conference championship game will also be moved back to Dec. 19.

“We felt like delaying the season start, kicking back the championship game a couple weeks, gives us flexibility to deal with things that may happen during the season,” University of Missouri athletic director Jim Sterk said Thursday.

Mizzou will still play the eight conference opponents already on the schedule, plus two more from the SEC West division. No word on who those additional teams are yet.

Sterk said Mizzou hopes to open Faurot Field to fans at 20% capacity. He also said in an email to fans that he anticipates the game against Arkansas set to take place at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City will move to Columbia.
