State sets daily coronavirus record; Moniteau County reports second COVID-19 death

Statewide coronavirus cases take another record-setting jump.

Missouri reported 936 new cases Tuesday, beating the old record set last week. Another 10 Missourians have died from COVID-19, for a total of 1,093.

Gov. Mike Parson said Tuesday that Missouri’s recent spike in coronavirus cases is being seen in Missouri’s younger population.

“We need young people to take this virus seriously and understand the responsibility they have in the health of their families and communities,” said Parson during a press briefing Tuesday.

Parson added 60 percent of the state’s coronavirus cases are in Kansas City, St. Louis and southwest Missouri. He said despite hospitalizations seeing a recent increase, the state’s ICU availability is still under capacity.

Local officials say a second patient has died from COVID-19 in Moniteau County. The patient was in his or her 60’s.

Boone County reported 14 more coronavirus cases Tuesday. The county reported its third COVID-19 death earlier this week.

Cole County confirmed another two cases Tuesday. Saline County also reported two new cases and Callaway County added one.
