Treece: Boone County likely to extend stay-at-home order

The stay-at-home order for Boone County is set to expire on Friday. But Columbia mayor Brian Treece said Tuesday that will probably be extended.

“I expect it to be something less than what we have now, but something more than what is required statewide.”

Missouri’s order is set to end May 4.

Mayor Treece says Boone County hospitals will slowly start providing other services again besides mostly coronavirus response. He says local stay-at-home orders are making a big impact to slow the spread of the coronavirus in Boone County.

“Thanks to the effort and sacrifice of families and physicians and nurses and businesses, we have shown we can flatten the curve.”

Treece on Tuesday pointed to Boone County’s number of positive cases, which is now well below average relative to its population.

  1. How does the mayor of Columbia get to make rules and dictate to those outside the Columbia city limits ?

  2. Greg, Treece is not ultimately making the call. That decision mostly resides with county health officials. -BT
