UCR data shows downward trend in Columbia crime data

Crime data released by the FBI seems to show Columbia is trending in the right direction.

Reported murders, rapes, robberies, assaults, and thefts were all down in 2018 compared to 2017, and below the five-year average. There were 3.64 violent crimes per thousand people, and 28.41 property crimes per thousand, in 2018. That’s down from 4.98 and 29.34 in 2017.

Burglaries were up from 2017, but below that five-year average. Vehicle thefts were the only studied category that appears to be on the rise, both compared to 2017 and the five-year average.
