More than 250 Columbia-area children and families now have warm coats, mittens, gloves and boots to stay warm this winter, thanks to several Columbia organizations and churches.
Former mayoral candidate Tanya Heath tells 939 the Eagle that Sunday’s coat drive was organized by Destiny of Hope, P.E.A.C.E. and the Beacon of Hope Foundation. She says the children and their families were able to pick out the coat size and attire needed for the upcoming winter. Volunteers helped the children with sizing and selection.
Julian Jackman of P.E.A.C.E. says the organizations are proactively making sure that families have what they need before winter. Ms. Heath says families without their own transportation were picked up by a bus. Destiny of Hope’s Lonnie Lockhart-Bey says the groups are on a mission to find out the children’s needs and serve these children so they can have a positive future.
