A South Carolina suspect charged with the gruesome murder of a Mizzou student in Columbia more than 26 years ago has still not hired a lawyer or filled out an application for a public defender.
Boone County Judge Stephanie Morrell has found 46-year-old Sentrell Wilson has waived his right to counsel by behavior. A plea of NOT guilty has been entered.
Wilson is charged with first degree murder for the February 2000 killing of Mizzou student Candice Richie. First degree murder charges mean prosecutors believe it was premeditated.
A January court filing from Missouri assistant attorney general Kevin Zoellner alleges that Wilson asphyxiated the victim, left her body where it went undiscovered for days and then fled Missouri. Wilson has a lengthy criminal record in South Carolina that includes armed robbery and aggravated assault.
Wilson is scheduled to appear in court for a hearing Monday morning at 9 before Judge Morrell.
