Boone County prosecutors have filed a felony possession of child pornography charge against a Columbia man described in court documents as a flight risk.
The court has ordered that 53-year-old Stephan Jon Sheltmire remain jailed without bond.
A court filing from Boone County prosecutors describes Sheltmire as a danger to the community, alleging that he traffics in and consumes “child sexual abuse material, with images of elementary school-aged children being raped and sexually abused by adults.” The court filing from prosecutors also describes Sheltmire as “a danger to all of the children of Boone County” if he were in the community.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Office’s Cyber Crimes Task Force has been investigating Sheltmire since December, according to the graphic three-page probable cause statement.
Sheltmire’s next court date is expected to be next week in Boone County Circuit Court.
