A plea hearing has been scheduled for this afternoon at the Boone County Courthouse in Columbia for a woman charged with involuntary manslaughter, driving while intoxicated and two other felonies for the 2021 death of a motorcyclist on North Providence.

74-year-old Susan Hanel is scheduled to appear at the Boone County Courthouse at 1 pm before Judge Joshua Calvin Devine, who has ordered her to be transported from the jail to the courthouse for the plea hearing. Boone County assistant prosecutor Nick Komoroski and Jefferson City defense attorney Daniel Hunt will be in court for the hearing.

Columbia Police say Ms. Hanel was northbound on Providence in November 2021, when she entered the center turn lane at East Sexton and failed to yield when making a left turn. CPD says 25-year-old Skylar Maddox was unable to avoid her vehicle and collided with the rear passenger side.

Mr. Maddox was ejected from the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at a Columbia hospital. He worked at Gilbane Motorsports on Nebraska Avenue, which helped raise money to pay for Mr. Maddox’s funeral expenses.
